“Mara” A Media Maven Doing Well For Herself
North Carolina native Shamara McCoy, aka ‘Mara The Hip-Hop Socialite,‘ wears many hats in the world of Entertainment Media and is beyond driven to make a big impact nationwide. 2012 is shaping up to be a very proactive year for Mara, as she goes into detail with us at Urbanbuzzmag.com “Where Key Players Speak!”
UBM: How did you initially get involved in the Entertainment Media industry?
Mara: Well before any of this, I earned a law degree from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. I always excelled in school, and law school was a natural progression for me after graduating from NC A&T State University because I’m an avid reader and writer. In my parents’ eyes, it was the next logical step, but I wasn’t exactly sure being an attorney was a good fit for me. Anyway, I’ve always been obsessed with celebrity news and gossip, but I never thought I could make a career out of it until I relocated to NYC. Here, the possibilities are endless! The year I spent practicing law right after I moved here confirmed the law field wasn’t for me. By then, I’d built up the nerve to do me and not be as concerned about everyone’s expectations of me. I got my foot in the door of the entertainment industry by working for music industry executive Theo Brown, who at the time was the National Director of Promotions at Interscope Records. I began writing about my experiences interacting with the artists who were signed to the label. It just kind of took off from there, particularly after I started my website, TheHipHopSocialite.com. If I could do it all over again, I would have jump-started this adventure I’m living years ago by majoring in journalism in college.

George Lucas has completed his task with bringing “Red Tails” on the big screen. After boldly admitting no one wanted to touch the project because the cast consisted of “Black Actors” not including “Denzel Washington or Will Smith” the support was low. However, after studying Tyler Perry’s methods. Lucas realized, you can make an all African American film and reap a financial reward. George put up his own money to make the story of Tuskegee Airmen come alive. The film “Red Tails” will be in theaters January 20th 2012. The Boondocks” Aaron McGruder known for his controversial material is on board contributing as one of the screenplay writers of “Red Tails.” Anthony Hemingway known for “Ali” and “Changing Lanes” on board as director.
