Celebrating Black History Month with Bettye LaVette
Oh My Gosh! Bettye LaVette sung at an evening celebration for the United Negro College Fund, featuring Chaka Khan. Bettye LaVette received a standing ovation for her rendition of “Love Me Still.” It’s been a long time since a vocalist, performer singer gave me chills. You can hear her eclectic musical style of soul, blues and gospel as she took her time and gave a wonderful performance. Bettye LaVette is a product of industry don’t know how to market you myths. She briefly gave up recording for a six year run on Broadway, to perform in Bubbling Brown Sugar. Bettye LaVette lives in West Orange, NJ with her husband.
You will be able to see Mrs. Bettye LaVette on the 53rd Grammy Awards February 13, 2011. LaVette has a new album “Bettye LaVette Interpretations: The British Rock Songbook.”On her new CD, Bettye brings the British invasion home to its American R&B roots, looking to the past for inspiration and uncovering common ancestry in seemingly divergent musical avenues. Throughout the new album, her performances are a revelation, inhabiting each song so completely as to make them her own. That is for sure. The Urban Buzz Magazine “Where Key Players Speak!” salute you Mrs. Bettye LaVette. God Bless you. I need you to release your version of “Love Me Still” can someone make that happen? I hope she is going to receive a Grammy this year. I mean really. (Photo by Carol Friedman)
