A New Beginning

The Harlem Renaissance was the revitalization of a culture that existed for centuries before slavery. It was the reminder of the richness and royalty of a people that was stripped of their identity. It was the first real move toward equal rights for blacks because it was the first time they were allowed to understand their own history.

The man who started it all, Alain Locke, coined the term, “The New Negro.”  The New Negro is the Negro as who he is: cultured and intelligent. He wasn’t who he was portrayed to be in white society.

Mike Tyson is a sole survivor. Very few celebrities have been so transparent  The media has continued to destroy his character but Mike Tyson has risen above it all. Mike Tyson is one of the most famous and infamous, boxing champions. In 2009 Mike Tyson narrated his life story in a self titled documentary. Tyson speaks very candidate about his failed marriage, a felony conviction, and lack of training which lead to his fall. This film only opened up in 11 theaters, his fall was national. I want everyone to get the DVD.  When asked how did you become the great Mike Tyson? “When I head for the ring to fight, I would have supreme confidence, even if I was scared.” Mike Tyson scared? “I m scared to death. I’m afraid. I’m afraid of everything. I’m afraid of losing. I’m afraid of being humiliated. But I’m confident once I get in the ring.”
