Music and Tours and You!

Lately, the steam of trying to keep relevant as an artist has its challenges. Many corporations are not investing in music like they use too. Top selling artist are coming up with tactics to keep your attention. Which many have to get over their diva and arrogance issues. Some artist are giving away free tickets, album preview, backstage passes, merchandise, downloads and performing anywhere to keep fans happy. Meanwhile industry doors are becoming narrow. Grammy and Award shows have cut down the number of genre such as R&B and Hip-hop, leaving MTV and BET a slot to keep fans updated. In all reality, as I like to say plainly, budget cuts. This year MTV reported a decline in viewership of one of its top viewed shows, MTV Video Music Award 2012. What does this say about the music industry overall. Well, I am not sure.  I do know performances by Taylor Swift, Frank Ocean, Green Day, Pink, Alicia Keys, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and One Direction, was not enough to gain viewership.  However, last year picks had double the viewership Adele, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Bruno Mars, Beyonce and Lady Gaga. So, can anyone tell who is on top? Is it by the charts, sells or tours? Honestly, my favorite artists right now are Anita Wilson, LeAndria Johnson, Marvin Sapp, Anthony Hamilton, Kem and Aretha.

Karen Clark Sheard Sings Tribute To Mariah Carey

Four-time GRAMMY® Award-winning recording artist Karen Clark Sheard gave one of the evening’s most memorable performances in a tribute to music legend Mariah Carey at the BMI Urban Music Awards at the Saban Theatre in Los Angeles. Carey was the 2012 recipient of BMI’s Icon Music Award. A personal favorite, Carey requested Clark Sheard to be a part of the tribute, which also included performances by Fantasia, Joe, Eric Benet and a special DJ medley mix by longtime super producer Jermaine Dupri. Clark Sheard performed Carey’s gospel-influenced “Anytime You Need a Friend,” written and co-produced by Carey, which was featured on the Music Box album (1993). “It was an honor to be a part of Mariah’s tribute,” says Clark Sheard. “From the beginning, I’ve always loved her and her music. She is an inspiration and blessing to the world. She is an incredible artist and friend. She has always been a constant supporter and cheerleader for my music and ministry.”
