Singer, songwriter, producer, Lenny Kravitz tweeted In this new year, may we have new understanding, that will lead us one step closer to a peaceful existence. Lenny. Lenny Kravitz have been making records for over twenty years, since his landmark 1989 debut Let Love Rule. In that time, he has sold over 35 million albums, won four Grammy awards and has added acting to his resume. Lenny Kravitz’s ninth studio album, Black and White America is centered strongly around the concept of integration. Taking musical cues from the past while looking forward, Black and White America seamlessly pulls together a wide range of musical and cultural influences, both urban and rural. Lenny Kravitz admits “This album is a celebration,” he offers. “Anybody listening is going to feel it and be uplifted by the spirit of the music.”
Expanding on the concept of blending and unifying, Lenny Kravitz has released the album as a DJ mixtape, presenting the tracks in a new sequence with skillfully crafted mixing and exclusive re-edits. To achieve this unique presentation, Kravitz enlisted Peace Bisquit‘s roster of talent, who collectively have remixed and DJ’ed for the likes of Beyonce, Radiohead, Foster the People, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Passion Pit, Mariah Carey and many others. Lenny Kravitz admits, “A lot of this record seems to be influenced by what I was listening to in junior high and high school. Soul, R&B, bands like Earth, Wind and Fire, Quincy Jones productions like the Brothers Johnson—these were the type of records that taught me so much about producing and arranging music.” Black and White In America Dj mixtape is produced, written, arranged, composed and performed by Lenny Kravitz.
