Selected Of God

by Nigeria

When The Praises Go Up Blessing Come Down. Selected Of God is doing just that, giving the Lord our God all the praise. Make sure you check them out on the Stellar Awards.

Taking the Word of God, which never changes and fitting it into a world that’s ever changing. Selected of God Choir, a group of resilient singers has taken their “one shot” to make a major impact on the world. For those of you who do not know Selected of God Choir, they stood in harmony with Eminem in the Chrysler Commercial. They’ve won an Emmy for their role.

Pastor Larry Callahan and good friend Musical Director Stephen D. Anderson shared with UrbanBuzzMag.com the importance of not giving up on your dreams and passion.  Firstly, I have to say it is my pleasure to speak with you Pastor Larry Callahan and Stephen Anderson. I will be checking to see if we are related Mr. Anderson. (laughter). Your story caught my full attention. I get excited when I hear a testimony about how the Lord our God can bring you through. Simply because if I don’t hear it, I believe He only loves me and doing for me (laughter). Let me share with the readers a brief description about you both. Larry Callahan and Steve Anderson worked a job to keep the bills paid while moonlighting as a “dream chaser.” While working at a local church the duo took their choir to ministries all across Detroit, sharing the love of Jesus Christ through praise. Amen. While working both lost their jobs on the same day.

Tell us about that experience.  “We didn’t know how we were going to feed our families,” explains Larry. “We reached rock bottom; no money in our pockets, we even ran out of gas driving to complete the video taping for ‘Lose Yourself.”  With our music ministry, “We just want the freedom to sing songs about God that will change lives,” explains Music Director Stephen Anderson. The group challenges the standard views of Gospel music, we have “church swag” which brings a youthful, vibrant feel to Christianity. “We take the Word [of God] which never changes and fit it into a world that’s ever changing.”

Amen. After losing our jobs and promising to keep the vision by any means necessary. Our musical journey began that can only be described as orchestrated by the Lord God Himself.”Amen. I see you guys are operating with Mark 16:20 (KJV) And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen  We better start because this can go. (laughter)

NI: After keeping true to the vision. You are now in purpose, how does it feel?

SOG: It’s an overwhelming feeling we don’t take it lightly and we are grateful for the opportunity the Lord has given us.

Ni: Talk about Called. As a Pastor and Musical Director it is evident that you were called by the Lord to do what you both are doing right now.

SOG: When you have been called and know you are destined to do something. You will eventually end up doing what you were called to do.  When you finally get there and you are in purpose, it’s an overwhelming feeling.   2 Corinthians 2:14 Now  thanks be unto God, which always causes us to triumph in Christ, and make manifest the savour of His knowledge by us in every place. It is a wow experience and you are grateful for the favor and learn to appreciate the Lord.

Ni: The key word is eventually. Sometimes people get caught up in that process. The Word of God says victory is in your Praise. Selected of God Choir can testify to that. Tell us how the walls came down.

SOG: When you Praise it comands a response from God. It lets the devil know you just lost. When you can’t see the breakthrough still praise. It tells the devil my praise is going get me through and destroy the devil’s plot against you.  My praise keeps my Spirit fresh and gives me joy. Yes, victory is in your praise.

Ni: Amen, okay you almost took us there with that answer (laughter) What is next for Selected of God (SOG)?

SOG: The New album will be release at the top of the year 2012. The first single we will perform at the Stella Awards. We want the album to be very innovative.  It will be something to anticipate. We believe God’s hand is on the project and its songs. We are singing about reality, encouragement, praising and we believe God is speaking through us to his people about the life and times we are in.

Ni: Now, this is awesome the people you acquired for your choir are not all church folks. How did you get hairdressers, unemployed and sister quiet in the corner to see the vision the Lord placed on you both?

SOG: First action every one of them have a love for God with their heart and soul. The music was used to usher a new sound. The Lord knew they were able and willing to praise Him and it has been Chocolate ever sense sweet.

Ni: I think I am going to take that right from ya’ll chocolate “Sweet” like that. Truly you have the right name Selected of God Choir. Only the Lord could’ve brought you all on one accord as such. You both are proof when the praises go up the blessing come down. I know there are more testimonies with in the Choir.  So, please go on and brag about the Lord our God.

SOG: Yes. There are numerous testimonies, marriages came together. There have been emotional healing even for us. The anointing and the promises of God are yes and Amen. His overflow just came when we became unemployed.  The Lord showed His hand.  We were provided for better not working than working.(laughter) Then there was a spiritual maturity which took place among the choir.  A deeper seeking to get to know Him better.  Deliverance and more testimonies. This is why you might see us dancing across the stage but it is really our knew lifestyle. My soul really begins to cry out during performances and I might just start dancing or shouting. It’s real like that.

Ni: I know that way. I can testify. I like what you said that He provided for you better than when you were working expand on that for us.

SOG: Sure. When we got fired, we were like how can we take care of our family. We were planing a way to make sure our family would be taken care of. The Lord moved quickly on our behalf. My wife called and said you have checks here. The word of God lets us know He will never leave you nor forsake you. It also, says, I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. We can testify to that.  We were unemployed and shopping on Rodeo Drive buying Christmas presents. The Lord just showed himself by opening the door for us to do the commercial.

Ni: Through your songs, although it may not be the contemporary or standard gospel sound. The goal is the same to praise the Lord. What encouragement do you have for those reading this?

SOG: God is a dream maker. I am doing what I use to watch actors do on t.v. I never thought it could be me shopping and buying what I like. I couldn’t see it. I thought it’s only done like that on t.v. God said I am the rewarder of those who diligently seek me.

Amen, I have to say when I saw the commercial I was like Eminem messing around. He is about to get saved and do Holy hip-hop.  The commercial is great and you all came in singing. Are you involved in any charities?

SOG: We are connected with a different charities in Detroit. There are people who don’t know the Lord and our work is to be the light and encouragement. For we know all things work together for good those who have been called and love the Lord. However, Satan has lied telling people  the Lord will not like someone like you. We are here to inform them that God is able and we take to the community and evangelize about the Lord.

Ni: Amen. Any last words before we end?
