Mr. Shawn Edwards is a distinguished journalist, award winning TV and film producer, and seasoned marketing and event consultant whose influence in the entertainment industry spans more than two decades. A nationally recognized film critic for Fox 4 News in Kansas City, Missouri, Edwards has built a respected career grounded in his lifelong passion for cinema. A devoted advocate for preserving the legacy of Black performing artists and filmmakers, Edwards has consistently championed stories that honor the history, evolution, and cultural impact of Black film. His commitment to elevating Black storytelling remains unwavering particularly in an industry where award snubs and limited investment in culturally relevant narratives continue to challenge Black filmmakers. Through his work, Edwards continues to create platforms and curate events that celebrate, protect, and advance the voices shaping Black cinematic excellence.
In 2003, Shawn Edwards co-founded the African American Film Critics Association, a pivotal step toward ensuring that the voices and perspectives of Black film critics are recognized and respected within the industry. Today, Edwards is spearheading one of his most visionary initiatives: the creation of the Black Movie Hall of Fame. Scheduled to open later this year inside the historic Boone Theater in Kansas City’s legendary 18th and Vine Jazz District, this groundbreaking institution conceived by Shawn Edwards. The space will celebrate the achievements, artistry, and enduring cultural impact of Black filmmakers. As executive director, Edwards will guide the Hall of Fame into becoming a premier destination for education, celebration, and the preservation of Black cinematic history.
